Five Training mistakes in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu - By: Jared Lil

You will be put to the test when you are training for martial arts; Fatigue will take over if you lose your focus doing training. Prepare your body and mind to train Jiu Jitsu because if one is lacking, it will make it that much harder.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is learned from live training or position rolling. Both a strong body and intellect will ensure endurance and safety throughout a long training session. For a Martial Artist to succeed and develop his skill, the following should be avoided in training:

Don't overlook the importance of what your eat and how much rest you get.

A diet focused on the correct amounts of protein, carbohydrates, and fats will be essential, but will add up to nothing if there is no rest period to help the muscles recover. Failure to do so will turn an enriching and strengthening physical activity into a tiring, laborious chore.

Your training will be eating up a lot of your calories so you need to eat healthy to keep your energy level up. Feeding your body lots of proteins and carbs will keep the muscles supplied and increase your energy level. Oh, and make sure you get around six to eight hours of sleep since this is the time your muscles will repair themselves and start building up.

Jeopardizing safety to avoid a bruised ego…

You need to be sensible and disciplined when training for something as physical as Jiu-Jitsu. You have nothing to prove and nobody really expects you to. Besides, at this point, you're still lacking in skills to attempt to be bold.

Just keep your focus and tap out if needed. This is training to develop skill not a competition. The right time will come when you'll be able to show them off in competitions. Meanwhile, check your ego and don't sacrifice your safety. Most importantly, learn from your mistakes.

Practicing Jiu-Jitsu...

You need to have a real passion for Jiu-Jitsu in order to make your training a more enjoyable experience. Every time you go to your training classes, it must be because you're interested to learn and not just because you have already paid for them. When you're in your classes, don't be afraid to participate. Otherwise, you will only be wasting your time and money. Observe how others move on the mat so you can formulate your own technique.

Not accepting defeat…

Naturally, you will experience a lot of losses while training. When someone catches you, your going to know right away. It is going to be painful not just on your ego but also for your body. Accept that you got caught and continue with your training. Best of all, practice proper breathing. This will clear your head and relieve stress while on the mat.

Be Consistent…

Training for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is not easy. Stick with a routine and watch as you skill level goes up in short period of time. Stick to your schedule. Don't miss a class or fail a workout session. However, don't go the other extreme and come every day. Learn to balance your personal schedule and Jiu-Jitsu training.

The requirements to excel in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu are intense but do not forget to relax and enjoy. From time to time, reevaluate your reasons why you want to get involved in this form of martial arts. It is physically demanding but when you're really serious about it, the compensation is well worth the effort.
