Attractions which tend to be aimed more at the younger ones of the family include places such as Pennywell Farm near Buckfastleigh which has a over 200 animals, Paignton Zoo, Crealy Adventure Park in Exeter, Babbacombe Model Village near Torquay and South Devon Railway which takes you 7 miles along to the River Dart and Totnes.

Attractions which may appeal more to the older generation include historical sites such as Buckland Abbey in Yelverton, Buckfast Abbey near Buckfastleigh which has fabulous gardens and is famous for its tonic wine and Arlington Court near Barnstaple. There are also an abundance of gardens to visit in Devon from the common National Trust gardens to the privately owned ones which include Bicton Park Botanical Gardens in East Budleigh and Becky Falls Woodland Park near Bovey Tracey which was voted Devon’s Top Beauty Spot.

2. Activities
Devon’s proximity to the coast means that it is a popular for its water sports such as surfing, kite surfing, sailing, diving and wake-boarding naming just a few. There are many sporting academies which offer tuition to individuals and groups alike. Surfing is one of the most well know water sports in Devon with beaches such as Bantham Beach, Bigbury Bay (both on the south coast) and Croyde Bay on the north coast being prime surfing hot spots.

Additionally, Devon has a diverse countryside with Dartmoor and Exmoor both providing areas for further countryside activities such as horse riding, hiking, abseiling, fishing and golfing. There are some organised activity centres dotted throughout the county such as the River Dart Country Park near Newton Abbot and Go Ape situated near Exeter which hold activity days for groups and individuals.

3. Hotels and Accommodation
Devon has a range of various accommodation types so when you’re arranging your Devon holiday you won’t have to worry about finding a place to stay as there are many places and hotels to choose from. 4. Coastal Towns
There are a number of breathtaking coastal towns which are worth visiting if you decide to make the trip down to Devon. On the south coast there such picturesque towns include Salcombe with its narrow streets lined with quaint, specialist shops and galleries and Dartmouth which has fabulous views overlooking the River Dart and is renowned for its restaurants and hotels, which embrace their country and coastal location and use freshly sourced local produce.

Coastal towns on the north coast include Croyde Bay with its extensive sandy beach and small town providing shops and cafes. The village of Clovelly is one of the best known and one of the most unusual villages in North Devon. Traffic is banned from the main road which runs through the village, so visitors have to park at the top car park and stroll down the hill towards the sea.

5. Beaches
Some of the UK’s best beaches are situated in Devon. The south coast offers Bantham and Bigbury on Sea which are large sandy beaches great for families. Many of the larger beaches have toilet facilities and cafes, such as Bigbury on Sea and Blackpool Sands, making a perfect day out without any worries. The north of Devon also has a fantastic array of sandy shores, such as Croyde Bay or Saunton Sands, which are again great for families and also very popular with surfers.
