Asthma is nowadays is a common most disease found. Though, its medication is available but still one tends to get scared as a layman to find one self facing the problem. One needs to be calm and prepare one self to face the problem in most positive way, so as to live in a healthier environment without any serious factors to face with. One must seek appointment with the doctor and one should ask and write the answers concerned.

Ask Questions

Asthma medicine is complicated, and it’s quite easy to get lost in the details. One should be very free and in a comfortable condition to ask the doctor the difference between a bronchodilator and anti-inflammatory. One should ask doctor all the related details if not properly understood, such as when and how to use the medicine? One should ask if the medicine is safe to use. Will ones health insurance cover this medicine? All the questions should be written and answers should be chalked out for further help.

Write it Down

One can ask the doctor to provide you with worksheets that can keep track of your medicine plan. For each medicine one take, do ask your doctor these questions so as to fight and face the disease with more attention and confidence. Also jot down these questions as well:

- Can I take other medications at the same time?
- How much do I take?
- What’s the name of this medication?
- When do I (or can I) stop taking this medicine?
- Are there special instructions for taking this medicine?
- When do I take it?
- Are there side effects I should expect or report?
- What if I miss a dose?
- What does it do? Is it a quick reliever or a long-term controller?

Simplify

In the beginning of the medication plan, ask your physician to keep it as simple as possible. Because in the start it becomes really difficult to cope with complex medication plan, such as you may find it difficult to take pills in the morning, inhale medicine in the afternoon and again pills at bedtime. Having an easy medication plan in the start should be necessary to get familiar with medication. So, request your physician to keep it simple in the start.

Try

It is obviously difficult for everyone to start with medicine plan when one is diagnosed with asthma. But you have to try to fight with your disease. You need to learn different inhaler techniques and measure your breathing pattern daily. Your family members and close friends can be a great source of encouragement for you.
Stay flexible

As we all know that the symptoms of asthma changes from day to day, and hence your medication needs to change accordingly. The transition from one medication plan to another require flexibility – flexibility in the sense that you need to keep yourself ready for any change in medication plan.
