The Cooperstown Baseball Hall of Fame is one of the most popular baseball destinations in the world. A world-renowned travel destination, it's visited by domestic and international tourists. Every summer baseball greatsare inducted to the Hall in a traditional ceremony. Visit the library, the museum exhibits, watch the film and other presentations, browse in the gift shop, and don't miss the Sandlot Kids Clubhouse.

Great baseball players, umps and other personalities have been inducted into the Hall's ranks since the first induction of Honus Wagner and five others in 1936. Baseball fans have been visiting it in droves ever since the building was dedicated in 1939.

Even though, in spite of the myth, baseball was not actually invented here by Abner Doubleday in 1839, Cooperstown is still dear to the hearts of baseball-lovers. A visit to the town and it’s many baseball attractions is a rite of passage for many boys and girls. (And it's just as often been the dream of the parents!)

What season is the best to visit the Cooperstown Baseball Hall of Fame in? Most people come in the summer, and Induction Weekend is a national event, bringing thousands of people to town and packing every Cooperstown hotel to the max. Held among Hall of Famers and other major league players, The Hall of Fame Classic baseball game will be played this year (2012) on the Saturday before Fathers Day. although it had been previously played on Father’s Day.

If summers sound too crowded for you, consider that the Hall is open all year. You can have as much elbowroom as you like if you visit this beautiful upstate NY town on a fall foliage tour, or for the Winter Carnivale.

Regardless of when you visit, you should take your choice of Cooperstown accommodations seriously.

There are plenty of hotels, motels, inns, B&Bs, and vacation rentals in and around town. Each of those choices has its advantages and disadvantages. You won't want to be split up and have to stay in different places if you are traveling in a large group. For example, vacation rentals, are usually not adjacent to each other, which can result in getting the group together a frustrating experience. B&Bs might be good for couples, but will be too small to house youth-league teams or large family groups. Chain hotels can be notoriously impersonal, and motels are often cramped.

The right fit for most groups would be a lodge. Luxurious but rustic at the same time, a lodge usually has all the amenities you need to enjoy time together with your traveling companions.

A Cooperstown lodge might have a kid's playground, lots of space, fire-pit for barbecuing, and many other things that could be lacking at other Cooperstown lodging establishments. Lodges are designed for fun and comfort.

Cooperstown is a wonderful place to visit, and a trip to the Baseball Hall of Fame shouldn't be passed up. Your visit will create a long-lasting memory and provide a rich baseball-history experience. Make sure you find a comfortable facility that will ensure your visit is the success you are counting on.
