Finding A Personal Development Business - The Industry On Steroids - By: Brandon Boshnack

Growth gets people's attention. The personal development and self improvement industries are experiencing phenomenal growth at a surprising rate. Though independent studies may not agree on precise numbers, the overall consensus is that these business areas are skyrocketing to new heights. But why are they becoming so popular? The main reason is that the masses are finding that they can have more. More freedom, more time and more passion doing something that they really love. People want something where they're not doing the same job, day in and day out. It's important to have a business where you are constantly learning and growing. The majority of people are looking to find passion in what they do and uncover more of a purpose-filled life.

Most people realize that success takes more than just watching television every night. Furthermore, many people are doing something to change themselves for the better. For instance, high school graduates who immediately enrolled in college rose from 55.7% in 2004 to 62% in 2006. Moreover, for those people looking to get healthier, the number of "express workout gyms" has jumped from virtually nothing to over 10,000 in just the past 10 years.

Self help books have also seen exponential growth with over $600 million in annual sales. The personal development industry saw modest growth five years ago with a 10-12% increase annually. In contrast, this same industry is expecting to jump through the $14 billion mark in 2010.

So, who are these people who want to improve themselves? Even though the younger generations are prevalent in this trend, most agree that the Baby Boomers are leading the pack. Through the sales of self help books and audio books, the increasing number of personal life coaches, the rising interest in vitamins and holistic health approaches, or even the increasing trend of people going back to school to earn a new degree or skill, everyone involved is experiencing a positive effect.

Personal development is a great opportunity for continued success in life. Whether someone is looking to get healthier, become smarter, have more energy, acquire a new skill, or increase their income, they realize that personal development is the answer.

Let's face it. If you are in the office, side by side with a peer who is frequently working out at the gym, taking a course in public speaking, learning a foreign language, mastering stress management techniques through yoga, and listening to any audio book that he or she can find that is related to your industry, who do you think is going to get the big raise at the end of the year?

Not only will self improvement lead to increased skill and ability, but better self-confidence will also blossom from the experience. Whenever you take steps to improve yourself, your self worth increases along the journey to success. You will feel better about yourself, and others will notice this positive change in you as well.

Growth breeds life; growth brings success. If you are not growing, you are stagnating and ultimately dying. If you are not growing, you are instilling yourself with (and proving to others around you that you have) a "don't care" attitude. Learn a skill; master something; experience the freedom of realizing you can do or learn just about anything you tackle. Boost your confidence, boost your effectiveness, and boost your success in the marketplace.
