Find keywords relevant to your Niche - By: Carol Patrick

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) experts know many of the factors that Google weighs to determine which websites will rank on the first page of search results, but no one knows exactly how much weight Google attaches to each factor. Even the experts get it wrong sometimes, spending vast amounts of money on SEO can be a waste.

Avoid targeting very popular keywords. You will find it much harder to get your website ranked on the first page of Google if you target very popular keywords. You are looking for keywords that are searched for enough but don't have lots of competing web pages.

To succeed you must have an open mind. The internet is not a gold mine except for those that persuade you that it is, and then take your hard earned cash to show you how. There is one secret to online success and that is free advertising. I know, I can hear you saying it already! There is no such thing! And you would be right to say so.

Make sure nothing is under construction. It is ok to be working on some pages of your site; simply do not publish these pages yet. Every published page should be in complete working order. All links should function correctly as well. Check everything to make certain.

All of these are highly effective strategies. If you are on a tight budget, stick with the first 3 listed above. If you can afford to lose some dollars in the 'testing' phase, definitely do Google Adwords, as you can start generating leads for your business within minutes.

You should be using an article/blog site that has a decent Google page rank. Sites that are between 5 and 8 would be considered good, and should get you a page one listing relatively easy. All you have to do is use a page rank tool (search Google) to find out what sites rank well in the search engines.

The third tip relates to the title of your website. There are two points that relate to this. The first is that it should be the best keyword that you can find that relates to your niche or website. That means a good demand and low supply, though too much is sometimes written about this since such keywords are not easy to find. If you can't something with low supply, just use what you want and decide to compete against them.

Google prefers a blog, like blogger.com, Wordpress and Squidoo. Add HubPages also to the list. Create a page focusing on target keyword, on your blog with focusing target keyword, update with some posts, mention other blogs with a link or two and you are almost close by. Create one RSS feed at least from each one and submit them as in one.
