Financing a Better Future Through IRA Investments - By: Terence Mcbride

The primary reason for establishing a retirement plan is to accumulate enough funds that can support a person through retirement. For most people, being able to support a comfortable standard of living through their retirement funds would be sufficient. However, there are some who would prefer to have a bit more disposable income. These are most often than not individuals who want to be able to afford to do or to buy the things they never had the time or money for before retirement.

Each individual has their own plans for retirement. There are individuals who would prefer to retire in a quiet countryside. Others would probably prefer a house with an ocean front view. There will always be people who will want to travel all over the world. There will always be eccentrics who will want to swim with the sharks, climb Mt. Everest or do sky diving.

There are many options in the way of retirement plans. There are different retirement plans offering various features for every person’s needs and financial capabilities. A Self Directed 401k, SIMPLE IRA, traditional IRA and any other retirement plan available all share something in common. All retirement accounts need to be funded. Investments, interest gains and regular contributions are the three main sources of funding for retirement accounts. The IRA or Individual Retirement Arrangement is the most popular option when it comes to retirement plans. Let us then discuss IRA investment.

Most of the funding in a retirement account will come from the regular contributions by the plan participant. In some plans such as the Self Directed 401k the employers will also contribute to the retirement account. Another main source of funding for a retirement account after contributions would be profits from investments. IRA investments are just like any other form of investment. IRA investments use funds from retirement accounts as capital. Any profits from the ventures are diverted back into the retirement account. This is where the primary advantage of a retirement account comes into play. Every retirement plan features tax breaks. Just like with most retirement plans, the contributions to an IRA account are not taxed until after distribution. This is why IRA accounts are very good investment tools. IRA investment, if done properly, can be very lucrative.

There are a multitude of ways to use funds in an IRA account. IRA funds are commonly invested in stocks, bonds and other similar monetary vehicles. Real estate is a very good option when it comes to IRA investment. It is an investment with a long term nature that provides above average gains. The tax advantages that come with a retirement account will compensate nicely for the higher capital required when investing in real estate. Using IRA funds to purchase franchise rights to successful brands is also a very good way of utilizing a retirement account.

People should make sure they know what they are doing when it comes to IRA investments. The success of the investments will determine what a retirement fund can afford when the recipient retires. A nice pad out in the beach would certainly be a nicer place to live out retirement than a unit in a noisy apartment building.
