Fascination for hand-crafted clogs - By: Onweb Media

Clogs were originally very tough, wooden footwear which had its roots in Europe. They were worn by physical, manual laborers who used clogs to protect their feet. The upper portions of these clogs were very tough and hence offered superior protection for the feet. Very focused tools were employed to carve out wood and fashion these shoes. However, in the current era, clogs have assumed the role of being comfortable and durable shoes which can easily be slipped on and taken off. They are also increasingly becoming a fashion statement.

The older and more traditional clogs were carved out of a very hard, very sturdy and very tough, split-resistant wood. From their earlier role of being work-related shoes, clogs took the fashion scene by storm in the 1970s. Women and men alike adopted clogs as a mode of fashionable footwear. They were popular platform shoes, and men did not hesitate to wear them in bright and vivid colors. Conventionally, when they were still restricted to playing the role of workers’ shoes, clogs would have been worn either with or without socks. In the 1970s, women wore clogs with outfits such as tiny skirts and small, stylish dresses. They began to echo the characteristics of the brazen popular art scene.in addition to being hip and trendy, these shoes offered the wearer a heightened degree of comfort, and hence convenience.

There is a current fascination in both Europe and America for hand-crafted clogs. These shoes are being made out of very good quality leather. They have noticeably high heels. They have begun reigning supreme in the realm of celebrities, replacing the very woolly sheepskin UGG kind.

Stockholm witnessed the rise of a raging new shoe sensation, when two women came across over 300 pairs of clogs from the decade of the 1970s. These clogs were re-named Swedish Hasbeens. There are two reasons for this name. the first part of the name indicates the Swedish origins of these shoes and the term ‘hasbeens’ refers to the fact that these clogs had once been a very popular fashion statement, i.e. in the decade of the 1970s. In fact the popular actress Sarah Jessica Parker was seen sporting clogs on the sets of the movie Sex and the City, 2. The Swedish hasbeens achieved such a cult status that they were voted the fashion trend of 2008, and contended with the Volvo, an achievement which speaks for itself. A Swedish wedding snapshot of Aida Cherhegosha has been used in the Fall Winter Collection. These are period images and have been employed to spark off an increased demand for the shoes.
