Faith Alone Truly Isn't Sufficient - By: June Hardy

An acquaintance recently explained to me that he had just got started on a new enterprise and required some suggestions. He is on a limited fixed income and has maxed out his credit cards to fund his new business, but for the time being he has no clients.

He is stating affirmations that he is now a success and is without any debt. He wants to know if he should pay his bills by check as they arrive, even though the dollars aren't in his account yet. He reasons that these tangible actions would display his faith.

My Answer: Faith is remarkable - and is crucial. There are, nonetheless, circumstances when faith on it's own just isn't good enough.

I counseled him that he has got to pay more attention to the actual facts instead of faith alone and concentrate on understanding how to provide a service that is considered essential by other people. (Note the emphasis is on what "they" need.) He must recognize that although faith is a fundamental aspect to creating, the other part of the process is purposeful actions.

Taking care of your bills with bad checks is not an act of faith. It's called hopelessness. When you're concerned about how you're going to pay the bills - or what you'll put on the table - or how to keep a roof over your head, your state of mind is not conducive to creating anything good, let alone bring you a successful business.

We all have to take into consideration that all faith needs that extra special ingredient. If you're in an aircraft and it's spinning nose down, you'll first slip on your parachute - THEN you can do your affirmations.

There's a remark in the bible "Faith without works is dead", It means exactly that. Belief needs to be naturally joined with action. Intentional action. If it's not, then it's not really faith, it's only an effort to mislead yourself.

Lots of people feel that they can affirm with just faith, and they will avoid having to make choices or take specific actions. Not a chance! That's not the way it works. Actions and faith must be combined together as a symbiotic whole and work together. Neither one works perfectly without the other.

Therefore, while positive thinking is great and absolutely critical, strong positive action is the other harmonizing ingredient. The bottom-line is, you'll never pray yourself up a hill without a bit of action.

When you're absolutely completely ready to take action, with no holds barred, then the entire world moves too. You'll start to discover the happy coincidences, and the surprise meetings with just the right person to help you move forward. Things will start occurring with astounding regularity. But it first took the action on your side to set all that potentiality into motion. ACTION. By itself it's all just wishful thinking.

Some people might call that kind of activity by a different name. Sometimes it might be called exhilaration, In others it might purely be hard, hard work. It's all tenacity to do what it takes.. But it sure keeps the pot boiling.

Every so often the only way to make progress is to take a roundabout way on the way to your goals. No, it's not a "wrong turn." It's just an additional way of getting where you're going - apparently a necessary one. Regardless of what it takes.

Just don't stop trying and give up on your dreams whenever life disillusions you. The important thing is your desired goal - not the path you take to get you there.

Don't let anxiety put you off track on the route to your goal. Impatience has killed so many dreams because you presume it has to materialize NOW. It may be just around the next turn in the road. All you may have to do is just take a few more steps - or wait around for a few more days ...

It could possibly help to think of your idea of the future as a mountain peak. If we could make a straight beeline to the top, that would be fantastic. What often happens however, is that we end up going on little side roads with plenty of twists and turns on the way up the mountain. As long as we concentrate on the mountain peak however, we will go ahead and climb - up -up and in the end we WILL reach our goal.

This may seem a bit cliche, but it's genuine, nonetheless. I'm living proof as I journeyed through life. I've had many incredible "faith" occurrences over the years and yes, every now and then I even presumed that faith alone just MIGHT work, but by and large, my most productive experiences with faith have been paired with hard work.

Basically, it's all part of the unexplainable mechanism called FAITH.
