Vedic astrology is considering as one of the ancient Indian astrology sciences which are associated with planetary position and its motion with respect to the accurate time and also associated with their positive or negative effect on native’s life and on other entities present on the earth. It is important to note that earlier the concept of Vedic or ancient Hindu astrology was based only on planetary motion as per the movement of stars but later on the concept started to include zodiac sign too.

As per the concept of Vedic astrology, there are twenty seven constellations which include twelve zodiac signs, nine planets and twelve houses. It should be noted that each planets and houses representing some basic aspects of people life but it is depending upon person’s birth. Basically Vedic astrology is associated with three main branches: Siddhanta, Samhita and Hora. Sidhanta (Astronomy) covers application of astronomy and applies on astrology whereas Samhita (Mundane astrology) is related to the prediction of important events such as war, political events, earth quake, financial position, election astrology, astro-meteorology etc. and lastly, Hora (Predictive astrology) is divided into various branches such as Jaatak Shaastra, Muhurtha, Swar Shaastra, Prashna, Ankjyyotisha and many more.

Most importantly, it is important to note that the concept of Indian Vedic astrology is quite different from Western astrology. One of the big differences is Vedic or ancient Hindu astrology uses ‘sidereal zodiac’ in which planetary motion is measured and stars is considering as fixed background whereas western astrology uses ‘tropical zodiac’ in which planetary motion is measure with respect to the sun on spring equinox. Ancient Hindu literature is based on myths related to the constellations, planets and zodiac signs which describe the numbers of astrological rules. But the renowned astrologers of today’s century find out the exact concept of ancient Hindu astrology.
