If you seriously want to get rid of your curtains and those dusty fabrics that are hard to wash, you should get window shades. What are the differences between this two? Here is a bulleted evaluation that will surely help you decide:

Cleaning
Curtains are made of fabrics meaning they are not exactly water-resistant. Some are even made from heavy materials. Compared with curtains, window shades are easier to clean simply because they are water-resistant. You can easily uninstall them or take them down from where they are attached to and wash it with soap and water. If the weather is sunny, you can let it dry out for a while but if the weather is freezing, you can simply wipe it with dry cloth. In fact, other kinds of treatments like bamboo shades does not even need to be uninstalled. For shades like the bamboo, you can simply wipe it with dry cloth or vacuum it.

Dirt
Curtains are really that friendly to dusts and since you cannot simply vacuum your curtain, it would be really hard to clean, as mentioned above. With window treatments, it is not that prone to dusts so you can simply leave it for a few months before it collects them.

As mentioned many times in this article, curtains are made from cloth. Fabric is very much prone to fire. When there is a fire and it catches a fabric, it will surely help the fire light up even more. This is the dangerous thing that curtains can bring. Unlike window blinds that are made from materials such as steel, metal, etc. it will not be that prone to fire and it is perfectly safe.

Outdate
You can probably tell by now that there are really curtains that seem to be outdated. However, there are certain style of fabrics that are used in curtains that are really stylish, impeccable and classic. If curtains are your style, especially in a Victorian home, you can choose to do so. On the other hand, if your house is on the modern side, you can opt for window treatments such as motorized blinds that are battery-operated.

Sense of Privacy
If you haven't noticed, you need to really slide the curtains into one or two sides to clearly see the view outside. This is not a good idea especially if you are living in a place where it is not safe. It would totally be acceptable though if the curtains would be on your second or third floor and nobody can really see you from up there. Nonetheless, if you live in a house wherein there are plenty of noise and chaos, window shades are so much better to use. Why? These window treatments have an adjustable system that will help you in controlling the light that is coming into your house. If you want perfect lighting, you can roll it up. You can adjust it to whatever matches your mood.
