Exploring the Advantages of Metal Gun Cases - By: Shannon Hilson

One thing that gun enthusiast need to decide is what material is best for their gun cases. Your choices typically come down to metal, plastic, or cloth cases, and each one has some advantages. However, for overall durability and versatility, metal gun cases are the best choice you could make.

Cloth Gun Cases

One of the biggest advantages of a cloth gun case is that it is light weight and easy to store. When you have your gun out, or have it stored in a gun safe, the case can be folded up and put away. When the time comes to transport your gun, all you have to do is unfold the case and slip your gun inside.

The disadvantage of cloth cases is that they are not very durable, and they only provide limited protection for your weapon. Unless you only use your gun at an indoor shooting range, you are probably taking your weapon into an environment where it could potentially get damaged. The more often you use your gun, the more likely it will be damaged.

A cloth case is designed to protect your gun from scratches, or from very light bumping. It will not offer much protection from hard hits, dropping, or being flexed. For that kind of protection you need a case made of a harder material.

Plastic Gun Cases

Plastic gun cases do provide a level of protection that cloth cases do not. Because they are made of a harder material they are able to withstand more punishment, and they are not as easily bent. They are typically light weight, so they are easy to transport.

On the down side, plastic cases are not as durable as they appear. Over time they are susceptible to cracking and breakage. Once that happens the shell becomes weaker, and more likely to sustain further damage. It also creates a problem of causing damage to objects the case comes I contact with. The edges of the broken area can be sharp. These sharp edges can scratch or tear the surface of anything the broken case is put up against.

Once the outer case has been cracked, the case itself is no longer water proof. If you are ever out with your gun in the rain all of the materials stored in your gun case will become wet. If not dried properly the padding inside the case could deteriorate, and become musty.

Metal Gun Cases

Metal gun cases can provide the durability that you need, they are light weight, and they provide a great deal more security for your gun than either cloth or plastic cases. They are weather resistant, are durable, and they are not easily broken into. If you travel with your gun, especially if you travel by air, a metal case will give you the best protection for your gun that money can buy.

When it comes to keeping your weapon well protected, don't compromise by choosing a cheap case. A quality metal gun case will give you the protection you need at a price that is affordable. Do some comparison shopping and you'll see that a metal case really is your best choice.
