Exhibition stands how to make your design stand out. - By: Rick Dahne

Visit any exhibition or conference and you’ll be surrounded by publicity at every stall as exhibitors compete with each other to catch the eye of the visitor, draw them in and, of course do business with them. The problem is, as you’ll know if you’ve ever been to one of these events, that after a while they all blur into each other and visitors become numbed. The trick, therefore, with exhibition stands and any form of large format printing used at a conference, is to create something that is very distinctive and eye catching as well as being different and exciting. But how do you do this?

One point is to make sure that you have images of people on your exhibition stands. The human eye is naturally attracted to people and there’s even a part of the brain whose sole activity is to recognise human faces. Including a person on your publicity is a good way of attracting attention. To be blunt a nice looking woman is a good bet.

Sexist? It might sound like that but a quick glance at the magazines on a newsagent’s shelf will show what editors have known for years – attractive women attract male as well as female buyers. Next, it’s important to have as few words as possible. Just as a PowerPoint slide with a mass of verbiage will bore and confuse an audience, so with large format printing as well, paragraphs about the details of your product or service will be put people off. A few key points expressed in simple phrases work best. In particular calls to action – “Get a free…” or “Find out how to…” will grab your audience’s attention. Competition is fierce when it comes to exhibition stands but following these simple tips will help yours stand out from the crowd.
