Organising an event efficiently is called Event Management. Project management application for the development and creation of events like conferences, seminars, meetings, discourses, festivals, parties and even travel are broadly classified under the Event Management. Let us consider that a company wants to organise a press meet in order to explain the salient features of its new launch of a product. What are the necessary things needed for such an event to be made successful?

Planning is important
First of all, planning is important. The product that is to be launched would have been carefully analysed and its usability already demonstrated to the satisfaction of all in the company. But when the same thing is to be done to outsiders and that too to journalists, there is always a lurking fear that things can go wrong. The company should take extreme care right from sending invitation to journalists, their seating arrangement, demonstration of the product, answering queries coming from the press and concluding the meeting with thanks giving. Dinner to the journalists need to be planned carefully. Even if a single thing goes wrong, the company's name will be tarnished in the press.

This requires high skill. There are many colleges, universities, academic institutions and management schools that offer Event Management and Short term workshop for Event Management. Students are trained well in the Event Management Course and also in the Short term workshop. Executives who cannot devote full time for studies can avail the benefits of these short term workshops.

Marriage industry is worth Rs.125000 crore
They offer their services to the corporate sector and also to the individuals. Marriage industry in India is a whopping Rs.125000 crore industry. Marriage is an event and that too an important one. All the stakeholders are emotionally involved in the organisation of wedding. Topmost attention has to be given to the function. In earlier times, there was no Event Management concept. Therefore, weddings were planned and arranged at the individual level without efficiency. As a result, there were tensions from the beginning to end and many undesirable conflicts between the relatives of the bride and the bridegroom were common features. Today, weddings are a happy occasion to celebrate and cherish without any tension thanks to the management skills.

Importance of Event manager
If Event Management assumes so much importance in the present day world, then the event manager is even more important. The person who makes it possible for the event to take place smoothly and efficiently. Usually a manager is not a single person. He has a team of around ten to twenty persons (sometimes more depending on the event and its importance).

Multi million dollar industry
It is growing at a rapid pace. With the US Presidential elections nearing, the role of the campaign managers for both the candidates assumes importance. A campaign manager in the US Presidential race is none other than an event manager. It is the campaign manager who plans the meetings, crowd control, speech to be delivered depending on the place and the issues and in general the complete handling of all events till the last day of the Presidential election. Technology plays an important role in Events. There are specialised software’s and hardware that are available for all events.
