Having a new feline friend in your home can be disrupting and entertaining at the same time. Your local vet will give your kitten two vaccinations, two weeks apart if he is over nine weeks old. A young Kitten could catch cat flu, which can be fatal, so vaccinations are necessary.

Your vet will also check your kitten's teeth, bones and the rest of his body for parasites such as fleas or ticks. If present he will be able to offer the correct treatment for your pet. Worms can be transmitted to a kitten from mother cat at the suckling stage of his life. A vet will help by worming your kitten and asking you to bring him back for more treatments every two weeks, until he reaches three months.

However, your pet is a carnivore and will require the best in meat products to keep them healthy while growing into an adult cat. There are also specially formulated dry foods available for kittens. Kitten food provides the essential quality ingredients of proteins, carbohydrates, minerals and essential vitamins that aid the growth of a kitten's bones and tissues.
