Entering The World Beyond The Door - By: Anna Stenning

Opening doors to a house is like opening up a world of secrets within, or stepping out into the big bad world confronting the wonderment it holds. What is it about the door that makes it genuinely mysterious? Aside from the barrier it creates keeping strangers at bay and provides ultimate security for your home, it is also a portal to another place that is unfamiliar and unknown. Even if it is a stroll through the doorway into a shop, there is still an air of anxiety as to what one may find when they enter the vicinity.

However, we normal people never dwell on what is behind a door, unless one is to walk into a derelict building. In which case the anxiety of what is to come is heightened thus far, due to its unpromising exterior. When it comes to building doors for your home, you cannot help but making it as welcoming as possible. The appearance of a heavy steel door, gives a cold and unpleasant feeling. Especially when left to feel like you are entering into a prison.

Wooden doors are more commonly used for the front of the house, normally with a thick draft excluding frame that keeps unwanted cold air from entering into the house or warm air from escaping. These doors are commonly equipped with a deadlock system, a chain and very often a keyhole. Modern front doors tend to have textured patterns on the front of it with a window pane that allows for natural light to enter into the hallway. However, some can be designed like a solid block of wood allowing no chance for outsiders to look in and giving more of a strict privacy.

The more prestigious door can make a house seem bigger such as double doors that allow room for a crowd of people to walk in. This is no space saving opportunities when using this kind of door, but it does allow for a more airy feel to the home and only suits house that have a lot of land space. Often people have painted wooden doors that consist of a special formula or can be stained depending on the kind of design one is after.

Other houses that have a French door built for the back of their garden, provides further light and space. The lighter a house appears the more comforting it is and modern it looks. When getting the French door built into your home, the one thing that will make it stand out and appealing is its glass panelling. French door windows usually have a very artistic design to it. Styles include stained glass, textured, etched or bevelled. The glasses are normally thick and strong enough to withstand strong wind force and debris, preventing the risk of the windows from shattering.

Some French doors have a unique way of opening and closing such as by sliding, having expanded windows or folding open. This depends on the kind of design you choose to use, whether the way in which the doors open and close will clash with the rest of the way the house is designed, or whether it is simply best to keep traditional designs during the construction. When it comes to fitting in a new door it is best to research what you are looking for and then begin to think about the design after. Stick to fitting in a door to which you can customise and paint over yourself. If you are unsure always seek professional help and always get a professional to fit the door in.
