Reading is an essential part in any child’s development, not only for their language and reading skills but for their imaginations and creativity. Therefore, it is vital that reading is seen as a fun and exciting activity, which is why many children’s books use pictures and activities to engage them. However, parents often struggle to provide this enthusiasm to their children, unable to creatively engage their children.

It’s important for reading to be associated with fun and games for your child, which is why making the bookcase a fun area is essential. One way to provide creativity within the bookcase is by using bookends that include your child’s favourite characters or activities, e.g. football, pirates, fairies and so on. Equally, having a reading corner or area full of fun things is another way to encourage your child to read and to go into this area with parents. Having cushions on the floor, posters on the wall and so on are all additions to this area that enhance and encourage creativity whilst ensuring your child associates this area with fun.

Cast your mind back to your childhood and just remember how vivid your imagination was and how real some of the characters within books seemed to be for you. Now look at your child’s nursery/playroom and think whether you are truly encourage this same imagination within your child? Creativity isn’t just important for the stimulation of the imagination but also for social interaction, hand-eye coordination and much much more. Nursery decor is necessary in stimulating your child, so make sure your child’s room is full of mobiles, bookends, snow globes and other such items.
