Email Marketing Program - By: Allan Michael Taylor

Behind every successful email marketing program is a well thought of email marketing strategy. Basically, when you say 'successful email marketing program' you talk of how well you've differentiated your brand from competition, how you've increased traffic to your website, and how you have translated this traffic into increased sales for your business. All these things hinge on the tenets of a well planned campaign strategy that has evolved its content to meet its goals and to suit the tastes of its audience. Here are some tips on creating a successful email marketing program.

1. Know what you want to achieve.
It is important that you know exactly where you want to take your business in terms of profit and your relationship with customers. Set realistic goals as to how much you want to increase your sales and how often and easily you want to connect with customers.

2. Segment your email lists.
Once you have subscribers to your mailing lists, you can track the rate of interaction of your subscribers to your online site or your mail through reports given out by your software regarding link click-through and opening rates. By gathering information on what your subscribers want or relate to the most you can create email groups and tailor your next messages based on the identified preferences of the smaller groups that you created .

3. Develop relevant content.
As mentioned earlier, segmentation helps you create smaller groups of subscribers with identified commonalities. From this you can tweak your content for each segment thus increasing the likelihood that your subscribers will respond. Know what interests each of the segments and highlight those features in your messages.

4. Differentiate your brand and practice consistency
You have to work on the strengths of your brand. Do this by highlighting the features of your products or services that appeal to your customers and also by singling out the things that make you unique from your competitors. These factors are called drivers and once you've identified them you can build your messages around promoting them. This means that your brand logo, tagline, message, and graphics should be consistent with the overall brand identity that you want to project. By doing this, your subscribers will be able to identify your brand from so many others that are also trying to get their attention.

5. Be consistent in your timing and your updates.
Determine a specific time interval for distributing your messages You can do it weekly, monthly etc as long as you make sure to keep your subscribers posted on new product releases, promotions, etc otherwise your email marketing will be a complete waste. Aside from a scheduled timing the overall look of your messages should also be consistent. Create a theme that you will use for all of your messages so that your brand name and image remains consistent and is strengthened as you go along.
