With a higher price tab, hard plastic usually lasts longer than soft plastic. If you prefer the classic look and durability of wood chairs, you'll find that can be considerably more expensive than either of the plastics.
• Frame Finish - Most school chairs have a chrome or powder-coat paint finish on the steel frame. Chrome is the shiny silver finish that is common to many and easy to keep looking new. Powder-coat paint is sometimes available in several different colors, so you can best match the décor of your classroom.
• Leg Style - Classroom chairs are available with three different styles of legs; glides, caster, or sled base. Glide based chairs are typically nylon (plastic) or steel and are preferred when used on carpet. Caster based chairs are stable and frequently used for students moving between workstations, like computer labs. Sled based chairs can move easily on carpeted surfaces but are not recommended for use on other hard floor surfaces.
• Stackability – Ability to stack chairs is always a critical issue for space saving purposes and especially if chairs need to be moved from room to room on a regular basis.
