Easy to Follow Adirondack Chair Plans - By: Toby Chalus

Adirondack chairs are considered as fixed furniture, a must-have some would even say, when it comes to backyard, porches and poolside areas. And no wonder, this is the most comfortable piece that you can rest in or lounge on when you are outside the house.

If you are thinking of getting one for your place, you should definitely browse the net for one or two great Adirondack chair plans. However, you need to remember that having this will not assure that you will succeed in this project – whether that is the best that you can find. DIY projects require well-honed and practiced skill in carpentry and woodworking. Here is an example of what you would expect when working on this kind of chair.

Before you even start, try to familiarize yourself with the different parts of the Adirondack chair. You will notice that one is actually made up of different smaller pieces of wood. It is important to know this because the whole process is actually subdivided into three main parts.

The first is cutting the wood into smaller pieces and shaping these accordingly. For instance, the seat is composed of five to six different slabs of wood, each of which is tapered at the ends. The size and shape is very different to that of the arms or the wood used for the back. If you are not very confident with a power saw or sander, ask someone who is to help you. If you know no one, bring this to a shop and have it done there.

Once all of these are cut to pieces, the next phase of the whole process in any Adirondack chair plans is to assemble it. Most of the drafts that you will see online will advise you to start with the base which is the foundation of the whole thing. You will then move on to the seat and the back. Finally, you will be nailing in the slats and the arms of the chair.

The third phase of the whole process is polishing it so that it will be free from those tiny wood slivers and for it to look new. If you are going to use varnish or any kind of lacquer, make sure that the wood is of good, high quality. Any colored paint can be used also but see that it will complement the whole look of the house.

Now, to ensure that you will have great, perfectly done Adirondack chairs, see that you choose and download a good plan. Some of these will have complete, easy to understand step by step instructions, illustrations and even tips on how to go on with the project.

If you do not like the standard Adirondack chair (one-seater sort) then you can download other Adirondack chair plans which have a different style. There are long benches and chaise lounges styles also.
