Easy Step By Step Plans For Building A Chicken Coop - By: ArticleSubmit Auto

Owning chickens can be a fun experience. One of the most fun parts is choosing the breed of chicken one would like to keep. One needs to have plans for building a chicken coop before one brings their new chickens home. One will only need a few items to complete a chicken coop build, as it is relatively easy to build one. Then, one can enjoy the satisfaction of owning chickens.

Before beginning, one will need posts and something to dig the holes for the posts. It doesn't have to be anything fancy. For the fencing, some old wood scraps will do fine. Chicken wire will be needed to go around the fencing and then netting will go over the top of the entire enclosure. One will also need to consider some sort of shelter so the birds can be protected from inclement weather if necessary.

Clear an area that one can reach easily. One will then need to decide how big the enclosure should be and mark the area. Place the posts about 4 feet apart. They should be about 4 feet high.

Remove the soil where the post will be place, keeping the soil to one side. Place the posts in the dug holes and replace the soil that one has kept to one side. To avoid any movement from the posts, one should make sure that the soil has been packed in tightly. One could use cement instead of soil to make the post more rigid, but this is not that environmentally friendly and will also increase cost.

One will now have to nail some boards horizontally across the posts. Three rows of boards should be adequate. In order to feed the chickens as well as gain access, one should build a doorway into the area.

After the fence has been completed, in the middle of the pen one will dig holes to insert four posts into the center of the fenced-in area. One should make sure that these post are twice as high as the fence. Now boards will be nailed to the tops of these four posts in the form of a square.

One will then need to cover this square with netting and stretching it to the corners of the fenced of area. By placing the netting over the whole enclosure, one's chickens will be safe from flying outside of the pen area. One should make sure that the netting is secured to the posts so that it is not disturbed by the birds or blown away. This will also deter any predators from entering the coop with little effort. One will now have to place the chicken wire around the complete enclosure, from the top of the fence to the ground. This will also be stapled into place.

One final thing that needs to be added to the pen is a shelter for the chickens, such as a dog house. It will only take about half a day to complete this chicken coop build. Now, one can enjoy the satisfaction of watching his or her chickens in their new home.

This type of chicken coop is one of the most simple to construct, but if a person would like a more pleasant looking coop, then there are a number of plans for building a chicken coop available on the internet. These plans will be of a much higher quality and more pleasing to the eye.
