Earning money from home on your computer is just one lifestyle choice that is an option for those who want an alternative to a traditional job. For more than twenty years I worked outside the home, as both a classroom teacher and in real estate. Even though I enjoyed this work for many years, finally I had lost my passion for it and began to look at others ways to make money and live the life I wanted to live.

My goals were to replace the income I was making at the time, work fewer days and hours, and to be able to spend more time at or near my home doing other things I enjoyed, such as gardening, playing with my dogs, volunteering, and relaxing with friends and family members. I was able to do this within a year and a half of starting my online business from my home computer, and now I have a completely different life.

I began my quest by taking a close look at what others were already doing online, and then making a study of it. I had been a classroom teacher, so the idea of teaching others was appealing to me. The difficulty arose when I soon realized that I did not know enough myself to be able to teach anyone else. For a full year I took online classes and learned as much as I could.

The result was that I learned about affiliate marketing and began to make some small commissions. I was writing articles and blogging, so finally I knew enough about that to share my techniques with others who were just getting started.

In the beginning I had trouble staying focused, and found myself wasting lots of time. I finally got serious and made a schedule to keep me on track. I figured that I had been willing to work more than fifty hours a week for others in years past, so I should be willing to work for thirty to forty hours each week for myself.

This was my business, and I wanted to achieve my own dreams and goals, instead of helping others achieve theirs. As soon as I buckled down and got to work, my business began to grow.

During my second year online, 2007, I began to spend increasing amounts of time volunteering with several charities and non-profits in my city. This made me feel happy and fulfilled. You can do the exact same thing in your own life, once you make the decision that earning money from home is right for you.
