Dyslexia - By: Gareth Hoyle1

Often it can be hard to get proper diagnosis on dyslexia. Unfortunately it is still something that we are working on and learning about which can mean there is a struggle when it comes to diagnosing people. If you ask most people on the street they will tell you that dyslexia is when someone cannot spell properly. Although this can be one part of dyslexia, not everyone that is a bad speller is someone that suffers from dyslexia.

Many years ago dyslexia was something unheard of which meant that many people went through school just being classed as stupid because they were unable to keep up in class. Now a days we know there are methods to overcome this and with the right help children can keep up with their peers with no problem.

The main problem is getting a correct diagnosis on this. Some schools are over keen to diagnose and any child that struggles is automatically assumed to be dyslexic Article while other schools are slow on the uptake and many children are not given the diagnosis when they should be. This varies from school to school and is something that needs to be looked at.

If your child is diagnosed properly then the next stage is to look at treatments and ways to help them. Dyslexia is something that they will need to live with but it is also something that can be treated and therefore decrease the impact that this is likely to have on their lives.

There are lots of different treatments available and it could be a matter of trying different ones in order to find the one that works best for you. Not every method will work for everyone. That said you should give each method a fair amount of time to work before you disregard it and move on.

It is probably best not to rely on just your child's school to help them with their dyslexia. It can be a frustrating time but if you put in the hours at home as well then the difference will be noticeable and you can really help to set your child up for life.
