Don't Have the Cash For Fancy Exercise Equipment? You Can Still Get in Great Shape - By: Richard Pagano

There aren't many secrets or unknowns when it comes to knowing how to achieve lifelong health. Vitamins and other various supplements will afford the greatest benefit when combined with a healthy diet and regular exercise. Heart and cardiovascular health is typically at the top of most people's lists--even those that don't have a family history of heart ailments. Here are a few quick, inexpensive exercises that do not necessitate spending too much on equipment or on health club membership dues that you can incorporate into your daily routine right away.

1) Walking. Who would've guessed that taking a walk could actually be exercise. Make it a part of your regular routine each and every day. Walk for 15-20 minutes at lunch time and even a few nights a week after dinner. The cumulative effect of taking walks when you are able can provide a tremendous boost to your metabolism and cardiovascular health.

2) Hoola hoop. Seem absurd? Maybe, but take a crack at it. It is NOT as easy as it looks. It is a proven calorie burner and core workout. In addition to burning calories and targeting your abdominal muscles, hips and buttocks, you will improve your coordination and rhythm.

3) Push ups. If your goal is weight reduction, you'll get their faster by replacing fat with lean muscle. You can use free weights but push ups will also work. Invest in a set of "Perfect Pushups" to ensure proper form and avoid wrist injury. The improved range of motion over standard pushups will also work out the muscles of the arms, chest and shoulders.

4) Balance ball or Swiss ball. This can also be a great way to build up your core. Learn the different techniques to work out your abs and improve your balance. Balance balls can also be used in your stretching routine.

5) Hand grips. We've all seen them and tried them. They come in different resistance levels and are terrific for developing, what else, a physically powerful grip.

6) Calisthenics. Jumping jacks, squat thrusts, lunges, these are all excellent warmups and calorie burners. Remember not to overdo it.
