Dog Training Strategies for Travelling with Your Pets - By: Allan Michael Taylor

Basic tricks and canine manners can be learned by signing up in a reputable obedience school , but you might have realized that some activities should be handled personally by dog owners. They cannot learn all the things they need to know in just a few sessions and these are not enough if you want them to be house-broken correctly. Some situations are not included in most dog training classes and as a result, some dogs do not know how to act correctly once they are set in these instances. It's a good thing that these training techniques are easy and all you need is a lot of patience.

Some owners of canine pets have voiced out concerns that their dogs are clueless when it comes to car travels. Some dogs do not respond well and they will be too noisy and active. It's possible to stop your dog from causing a ruckus when they are inside a traveling car. Dogs do this because of the mental conditioning you have unconsciously forced them to develop. Think of the last time you have taken your dog for a ride. You probably went to the vet or to a playtime session somewhere. Activities like these will certainly cause some level of excitement to your dog so each time you go out, they would associate it with excursions you have done in the past.

What dog training techniques should you use during these instances?

It's quite easy to break this behavioral pattern. All you have to do is to take your dogs for a ride for no purpose whatsoever. It can simply be a ride around the block. At first, your canine pets might still be in a frenzied state. Do not react since any reaction from you will agitate them further. These trips will eventually make your dogs realize that not all car rides will result to something spectacular. If they won't calm down , all you have to do is to stop for a few minutes until they stop barking. Once they are calmer, you can start driving again.

If your dogs would react aggressively against other vehicles and other objects outside the car, it would be a good idea to make sure that your dogs will be lying comfortably at the back of the car. If they are in this position , they are less likely to bark at the moving objects outside the window.

Good dog training sessions should include tips how you can stop your dogs from being sick while in the car. Sick dogs are not good especially if you have to travel for a long time. You don't want them to get sick all over your seats and floor. You can avoid this condition if you would provide fresh air. Make sure that there is ventilation by opening your windows partially. Your dogs might stick their head out of the car and this can cause injuries to your animal friends. You should make sure that aside from being comfortable, they are happy as well. Once in a while, you should stop for brief walks to exercise their legs.
