Does Information Overload Got You Down? - By: TJ Philpott

Just starting out online and already overwhelmed by the information overload? Yeah I know it's best to seek advice from multiple sources but I figure you've already realized, ENOUGH ALREADY! You get your focus, or at least temporarily, and then BAM! New instructions to change course and chase after the newest and greatest approach to online marketing has hit your email box! Guess what, welcome to the world of internet marketing where strategies, techniques, and methodologies change like weather patterns…or do they?

The questions now is how to maintain your focus and organized or eliminate the information you are compiling?

Here are 5 steps you can take right now to 'stop the madness' and reorganize your clutter and approach to online marketing.

DON'T OVERDO IT ON THE FORUMS

Hey look, forums are a great place to learn and ask questions but there are only so many hours in the day. If you're running an online business you will need to devote a good amount of time to that. Select those forums that seem to be the most helpful and spend your time there while forgetting the rest.

DON'T SUBSCRIBE TO EVERY LIST YOU SEE

Ezines are another great source of information and training. Here again is another area where you can easily overdo it. By subscribing to too many lists you are begging to overload yourself. As part of your information management campaign you'll want to sort thru your subscriptions and eliminate those that aren't in your niche or seem to be the least helpful.

DON'T LET ALL THE ADS OVERWHELM YOU

Remember internet marketing is all about MARKETING so obviously you are going to see lots of online advertising and sales pitches. Remember that you did subscribe to receive this material! If you feel discouraged by what seems to be all the competition realize that this is in fact a sign that business is booming!

Be encouraged and take the time to learn from the many marketing strategies you will witness with each new product rollout and marketing campaign.

COLLECT, SORT, DISCARD, and ORGANIZE

Here's where your information management skills go into high gear. As you compile all the information sent to you and observe different internet marketing strategies take notice of what is of the most use to you. Simply discard the rest and organize what you've kept into a manageable and easy to access collection of folders. Categorize them in a fashion that makes sense to you and remember to back up your online files.

OBSERVE, LEARN, and BUILD YOUR ONLINE BUSINESS

Now that you've organized your files, you've also determined what is important to you and what isn't. As you now observe and collect additional online marketing strategies and tips it will be easy for you to either file or discard this information. Your confusion will be minimized since you now know what to look for.

Apply what makes sense for your online business and file any information that holds potential for future use.
Information overload can easily creep up on anyone but especially those who are entering into a new environment and wanting to learn. Your ability to exercise a little discipline and organize the clutter will help you cut down on your stress and apply what you have learned to building your own online business.
