Is the transmission in your rig being treated properly? It's commonly recognized that your car requires it is motor oil changed at least every 4000 miles, but how frequently do you require to get your automatic transmission fluid serviced? This really depends on your automobile, so feel free to get a look at your car's manual and figure out what it recommends. Nonetheless, we'd like to furnish you with a few common guidelines of when your tranny fluid should be serviced.

Unfortunately, the tranny is probably the most disregarded parts of automobiles today, and still it is probably of the more vital parts. Failure to maintain your transmission can result in early failure, and if you don’t maintain your tranny very early on in the lifespan of the vehicle, you're lining your self up for pain if you try to replace the automatic transmission fluid later in its lifetime.

Please observe the normal service schedule detailed in your rig's owner guide. If it doesn’t supply you with a frequency, try for each 25,000 miles. Yet, if your car already has alot of mileage on it, do not service the fluid.

Sounds funny, but here's the deal. If you have a higher mile vehicle (greater than 100,000 miles or more) and your tranny service hasn't been performed, and the vehicle still is working fine you must leave it alone. Here’s the reason. Chances are the fluid that has always been in the tranny this whole time is starting to get really dirty and coarse.

All the same, believe it or not this dirt and grime in the tranny's ATF is probably assisting the tranny to work better. If you have not been changing your fluid at normal intervals that soil and grit has caused corroding on existing internal parts that wouldn’t have came about had you been changing it properly. These parts (like the internal clutch and band mechanisms) rely heavily on friction in order to operate correctly.

At this point the friction that is ordinarily in the components from the builder has broken down cause of lack of servicing. So, since they are lacking their proper friction, they actually count on the friction in the fluid in order to function properly. Now, understanding that the components need friction in order to work correctly, if you remove all the friction in the transmission's ATF, what do you think would occur? In most cases, this new clean slippery automatic transmission fluid will make your older high mileage automobile to have tranny problems, characteristic slippage when shifting.

The brutal actuality is, if you aren't experiencing any problems with your older, higher mile vehicle’s tranny, and you haven't been keeping up with the typical servicing on the tranny, the best advice you would really receive is to leave the transmission fluid and filter alone. So, if you are seeing transmission troubles like slippage, hard or unstable shifts, or seeing the transmission acting slow to shift when the drivetrain is not warmed up, get the expertise of a specialty tranny repair facility prior to getting the automatic transmission fluid changed, because odds are the transmission is relying on that gritty automatic transmission fluid in order to continue working correctly. Servicing it might really be ending it's life.
