Do The Claims of a Gevaila Coffee Scam Hold Water? - By: John MacNamera

Some consumers who participate in the marketing campaign that Gevalia Coffee Company offers complain that the offers are a scam to charge them for unsolicited orders of coffee. "Caveat Emptor" is the buzz phrase that serves to protect consumers who accept the offer from Gevalia. Buyers can spare themselves the misery of receiving unsolicited coffee orders by doing one simple thing: read the fine print. It clearly states the terms of the offer as well as the protocol to follow if the consumer does not want to receive future coffee shipments.

The idea behind Gevalia's Fee Trial Offer is sound marketing savvy. The company feels that by offering consumers a ridiculously low priced coffee maker and other free, yet ever changing miscellaneous incentives, along with some great tasting coffee, the consumer will gladly accept the 'something-for-nothing' offer. Once consumers have sampled Gevalia's main product, coffee, Gevalia executives feel that the consumer will want to continue receiving wonderful coffee. The best-case scenario for the company is that the consumer will actually love the product and variety of flavors offered and will remain paying customers for an extended period. The worst-case scenario for the company is that the consumer decides not to continue to receive future orders of coffee and cancels.

The marketing plan, though, is somewhere in between the best/worst case scenarios. The in between scenario is initially, the customer has already paid for one shipment and possibly won't cancel before the second or third order is shipped. The company hopes the consumer will follow the line of least resistance and keep the second or third shipment before actually contacting the company to cancel future shipments. Therein lies the basis of consumer complaints. Again, had they read the fine print, there would be no basis for complaints.

The majority of coffee drinking consumers who accept this offer rave about the quality and selection of Gevalia coffees. They continue to buy their favorite blend and also enjoy sampling the wide variety of specialty and seasonal coffees. They enjoy the ease of adjusting shipments by using the internet to revise orders. So by following one simple rule and abiding by the phrase "Let the Buyer Beware" the Gevalia coffee offer is a great way to stay home and order coffee. What holds water is the carafe used to brew the delicious, steaming Gevalia coffee, not the consumer claims of a non-existent scam.
