Nowadays, living space is becoming more and more precious. Making the most out of it is essential, especially for those who, for whatever reason, could neither rebuild their houses up an out, nor move to find a more spacious home which can meet their needs. Playing with the interior design of the house could be one excellent way to maximize space. Choosing the right furniture, or moving things around and placing them nicely could help in achieving a more spacious house or room. Redecorating could be a nice solution to the problem.

While redecorating may seem to be an overwhelming thing to do, one might want to work on treating the windows using window shades. These are largely beneficial to have in any household because of all the wonderful properties that they have. Window shades are known to be highly functional and decorative at the same time. They are available in a number of styles, colors, textures, and materials that could serve different purposes while allowing them to go perfectly with any design style. They cater to any room's needs and demands like privacy, heat and light control, cutting energy costs, beautification, and so much more. The question now is, what do all these things have to do with maximizing space?

It might be surprising, but window shades can be used not just as mere window coverings; they can be perfect as room dividers too, especially the most dominant type which are the roller shades.

Room dividing is one thing to consider in creating more space. Traditionally, room dividers come in the form of sliding partitions and folding doors. These can actually create the tight space necessary, but there are downsides to these temporary fixations. One is their size. They may be too large and not suitable fro small homes. Another is their price, which can be costly. Lastly, they also require space for their installment. This is where the window coverings come in.

Roller shades can be utilized to divide rooms and make up the desired space, especially if the partition to be made has to be temporary. Once the partition is not needed anymore, one has to just roll the shades up to retract them to the ceiling and viola1 No more division to be seen. This is such a smart solution especially for rooms that cannot afford to spare even a little space for dividers.

Unlike folding doors and sliding partitions that are pretty expensive and that are available only in limited colors, roller shades make use of fabric made from different materials that come in various colors, textures, and density, making them complement the design of the room. On top of that, these shades may even allow a certain amount of light and sound to pass through the other room, depending on the thickness of the fabric.

Noise and light, however, may take away the privacy factor that comes with these shades if they are used as room dividers. While there are certain fabrics that have noise minimizing and light blocking properties, these do not work very well on rooms connected by fabric dividers. Aside form that, the durability of the roller shades will be at stake, because they will be exposed to more abuse than it will be if used on the windows. In this way, their longevity cannot be assured because they are not as resistant as the traditional partitions that are made of thick wood, or plastic. But then, again, as temporary partitions, they can do just as well.

Undeniably, roller shades may provide many benefits as window coverings and as room dividers too. Considering them for your household needs, whether for treating your windows or for creating spaces, would definitely be wise.
