Diversify Your Business with Online Auctions that Fit Your Budget - By: Chris Robertson

Whether selling or buying, online auctions can enable you to find those unique products you've been looking for or to sell almost any item. Even if you own a business that is not particularly auction-related, you can still use auctions to offer a few of your products, which may lure customers to your business website. This technique has worked for years and will help you reach a broader audience than ever.

Imagine you own a Web store selling various items such as clothes, shoes, bikes, garden decor, furniture, etc. You can list one item from each category to build a reputation at an auction site. If you specialize in movies, books, DVDs, video games and other entertainment products, these are usually hot items on auctions. Other items that can be sold on auctions are makeup, office supplies, stationery, electrical, coins, accessories, art and antiques. You can even make really big purchases through an auction such as cars, bikes and expensive furniture and appliances. The key is to find an auction site that works best for you.

Selling Tips

When selling items on auctions, be sure to price the item according to a fair market value. Be careful not to overprice, but don't cut your competition either. Keep your prices in the same range as your competitors. This helps create a friendly atmosphere in auctions while still allowing some room for competition. Also, read all the fine print before listing your items. Read the terms of service and all information concerning listing fees. You'll have to pay listing fees at most well known auction sites; however, new auction sites are available today that have eliminated this fee. These auction sites are growing in popularity, and you can be one of the first to use their system.

Also, check out the fees for added services such as additional photos, bold titles, listing page design, etc. Try out an auction that requires no listing fees to save on the front end. These types of auctions will usually require a percentage of your total sales price. This means you'll only pay when you actually sell the item.

When listing items, be very descriptive and include all details that a buyer would want to know. For instance, if listing a DVD, explain the condition of the DVD, the rating, who stars in it, and the length of the movie. If selling a more expensive item such as a car, be sure to include plenty of photos (interior and exterior) and give as much detail as possible in the description. List the positive and the negative points about the car so there will be no surprises for the buyer.

Use auctions to build a solid business reputation. Auction bidders will leave feedback, whether good or bad. You should strive to have a 100 percent positive feedback rating. Also try bidding on a few items to gain feedback from other sellers. This will help others to trust you, and you'll be well on your way to building your business with online auctions.
