Discovering The Basic Face Shapes - By: Allan Michael Taylor

Many do not realize how many face shapes there are. Recognizing your face shape helps with getting the correct hairstyle, jewelry, necklines and more. There are several different shapes. Some believe in the classical face shape and others believe there are no true face shapes. This has lead to people disagreeing on how many types there are.

The first thing to do to discover your face shape is to simply look in the mirror. If you have long hair, pull it back into a ponytail. If it is short try a headband. Then you want to measure your areas of your face like across your forehead, your jaw, cheekbones, and from your hairline to the tip of your chin. Once you get the measurements you can go to many different websites to see which shape best fits you.

Oval is the considered one of the most ideal shape types. Most all hairstyles will work to flatter your face shape. The measurements for an oval face is 60% longer from your chin to your hairline. People who have an oval shape tend to have smaller features.

One of the more common face shapes tends to be the rectangle or oblong type. Your face would measure 60% longer than it is wide. The more angular face would be rectangle where as the more rounded would be oblong. This is one of the more recognized face types.

Then there are the square face shapes. There are strong angles across the jaw and forehead. This is often mistaken for other face shapes unless the angles are very defined.

The round face shape is thought of as the least desirable. Women with this face shape sometimes are mistaken as having excess weight on their face. The measurements for the round face shape are said to be less than 60% longer vertically than it is horizontally. The lines of the face are more rounded than any of the others.

There are several other types such as heart shaped, inverted triangle, triangle, diamond and pear shaped. The shape of your face changes over times with things like weight loss or gain and age. The shape of your face is also a subjective view. You may think you have one face shape and your hair stylist may say you have another. There is no wrong or right when it comes to finding your face shape. Working with your stylist, you can find a hairstyle that will work for you, one that will frame your face and flatter your features.
