Faux pearls are artificial pearls made with a combination of artificial gemstones and with turquoise, Swarovski crystal and jade stones or coral.

The main factors which determine the quality of pearl earrings are colour, size, weight, shape, texture and smoothness. As far as size is concerned, the bigger the size the higher the price. Pay particular attention to the smoothness and lustre, making sure to avoid an overly smooth surface and an overly high lustre. Choosing a pearl with thick nacre is hard to determine with the naked eye, so check with a jeweller before deciding on a purchase.
