Diagnosing ADHD And ADHD Symptoms - By: Eloisa Roberts

Simple Steps in Diagnosing ADHD: Do you have children who frequently forget their homework, act without thinking, get fidgety all the time, impulsive, hyperactive, inattentive, lazy and undisciplined? Watch out! Your child might show symptoms of Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

Our children, generally lovable and innocent, are normal children still even when they forget sometimes, or do not seem to listen, or simply daydream, do not follow instructions or say inappropriate words at inappropriate times. But make sure these symptoms do not go excessively. For ADD/ADHD appears in early childhood, typically before the age of seven. Knowing ADHD symptoms earlier and dealing with it immediately is a very effective way to get help so it can be prevented and stopped at its early stages.

ADHD makes it difficult for people to inhibit their spontaneous responses. It can lead to problems anywhere – school or home, and affect your child’s ability to learn to get along well with others. Diagnosing ADHD in your child can be confusing. Generally, people imagine an ADHD child as a kid constantly moving, always out-of-control, bouncing off the walls and distracting everyone around. The ADHD symptoms and signs can be: inattentive but not hyperactive/impulsive, hyperactive/impulsive but able to pay attention or both.

Children who only have inattentive symptoms of ADHD are often overlooked and regarded as normal, since they’re not disruptive. Inattention however can lead them to trouble when they don’t follow directions, underperform in school, violate rules or clash with other kids.

However, children with ADHD can pay attention when they are doing things they enjoy. But when the task is repetitive, they quickly get bored. They often bounce from task to task without completing them. And find it hard to concentrate when there are things going on around them. They need a calm and quiet environment.

Sometimes though, it can be difficult to distinguish normal “kid behavior” against ADHD if you just spot a few ADHD symptoms, in which case you just have to capitalize on your child’s fortes to overcome his weaknesses. However, if ADHD is detected, do not delay in getting help. It would be most rewarding for you as a parent to know it at an early stage, having cured and seeing your child as normal as the others as he grows up.

As parenthood is generally accepted as a very challenging vocation, having a child with ADHD can be much more challenging. But it is part of the parent’s responsibility to prepare his child for a fulfilling life on earth. Or you are to blame when your child grows up with ADHD and lives a troublesome life.
