Diabetes Healthy Weight Loss - By: Julia Hanf

If you have diabetes healthy living is vital. While there are many factors that can cause someone to have type II diabetes it is generally considered to be brought on by an unhealthy lifestyle including having a diet that is high in saturated fat.

Studies show that most people suffering from type II diabetes are overweight due to lack of exercise and poor diet choices. Because of this it is vital that those who are at risk for diabetes or who have been diagnosed with diabetes become involved in a weight loss program since even the loss of a few pounds can be incredibly important.

When becoming involved in any weight loss program it is important to lose the weight over time as this will result in more long term gains.

Therefore, losing 20- 30 pounds in 3-4 months will improve the health of someone suffering from diabetes remarkably since the glucose in the bloodstream will drop and the cholesterol and triglycerides will go down.

The improvement of all the above will give diabetics more energy and better health; however, what is the ideal weight for diabetics?
Here is an easy way for diabetics to guess а good target weight by using this simple formula:
take your weight when you were age 20 and multiply it by 1.2 and you will see what your target weight should be.

In order to achieve the target diabeticѕ usually follow some kind of diet program, yet most diets do not work for any length of time.

Eat smaller portions:

• Use а small plate instead of the large dinner plate. This makes it look like you are getting more foods.
• Eat small servings.
• Eat low calorie soup before meal.
• Eat small portions of fruits or vegetables before you have a meal or snack.

Eat meals that have lower saturated fats:

o trim the fat off meat.
o do not eat fried foods.
o Use little oil when you cook.
o Take off the skin off chicken.

Eat scheduled meals

• Eat your meals at the same time every day, do not skip any meals. Skipping meals will only make you hungrier and eat more at the next meal.
• Try to eat different colors of fruits and vegetables for your meal, because different colors of fruits and vegetables contain many different kinds of vitamins and minerals.
• Eat fewer sweets and desserts.

Exercise:

• Exercising everyday will help to increase your physical activity as well as reducing body weight.
