First thing to consider is the layout. It depends on the amount of information that the brochure is going to carry. There is the bi fold layout where the material is folded into two. The brochure can either be presented as portrait where the fold is in the horizontal plane or landscape where the fold is in the vertical plane. The information is delivered in four panels or sides.

One more type of layout is the trifold wherein there are two folds in the vertical plane. This is actually the most commonly used layout for the brochures today. There are six panels or sides and the information is equally distributed to these six panels.

Hotels usually use this kind of arrangement because it is very convenient because the brochure is just over three inches inches in width when folded and when unfolded, it only is about eight inches. This is just the size of a standard letter. Tetrafold is the least commonly used where three folds line in the vertical plan.

This is usually used when the trifold comes short for the information required. With this layout, you gain more space with the additional two panels or sides. Think of a concept for the brochure that is going to be consistent with the product presented.

For example, using pencil-sketched windows for a housing project, the windows would serve as frames for the photos that illustrate the concept. Or you can use a network of circuitry for computer hardware. The ideas are limitless. It is important to focus on the quality of the brochure that is going to be produced.
