Derby has a rich heritage and was at the centre of the British Industrial Revolution. Derby is famous for being the home of Rolls Royce, who in 1907, decided to build a factory in Derby to build their aircraft and motor car engines. Over the years Derby has grown to become a compact, yet vibrant, multicultural city located in the East Midlands, UK. If you are looking for a great night out in a friendly city with a local feel, then Derby is perfect.

The city has a great collection of pubs and clubs to choose from including the Old Silk Mill Pub, which is located opposite Derby`s Museum Of Industry and History. The first records of the pubs existence date back to 1874, however, it is likely to be older than this and probably dates back to when the silk mill was operational. The Old Silk Mill is an attractive looking pub with a traditional feel and provides a superb traditional Sunday Roast.

If you are looking for real ale, then you could try The Flowerpot, which was given its name due to the flower shows, which were located in the nearby Drill Hall. The pub was originally a three storey house constructed 200 years ago, but was soon converted to a public house.

If Jazz is your thing, then Derby hosts the award winning Number 5 Jazz Bar, which plays jazz music 4 nights of the week. The bar is also open during the day providing great food in a relaxing atmosphere.

Derby also has a diverse selection of nightclubs to choose from including Mosh nightclub, which is a hit with rockers and those into indie music. The club is situated on Friar Gate in the city centre and plays alternative music three nights of the week.

Club Zanzibar is one of Derby's most biggest and most popular nightspots. The club is located in an old cinema and has 3 floors playing different music to suit all tastes. On a Wednesday the club has a student night, which offers drinks at a discounted rate.

When it comes to dining out there are a number of independent restaurants to choose from, including Zest, which can be found in Derby's restaurant quarter, serving contemporary European cuisine. The restaurant is set in a beautifully converted stables and offers a set price 2 course lunch menu at just £9.95. Alternatively, for a city centre eating, you could try the recommended Graze. The restaurant aims to use local produce and suppliers. Graze boasts a lounge, which can be taken advantage of to supply you with cocktails, malts, coffee and liquors.

What Derby lacks in size it makes up for in quality and the city certainly has a few surprises up its sleeve.
