Mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, panic attacks and other similar problems are on the increase. Is it really any wonder given the worries many are facing in the current economic downturn? It has come to the point where it could almost be described as an epidemic.

As well as those whose problems stem from mental health problems, there are others who suffer these conditions because of the processes involved in physical illnesses such as cancer, diabetes, heart conditions, and fibromyalgia.

This problem is affecting people worldwide and often defies the preconceived ideas of a person with such an illness. Many are fully employed in managerial and executive positions where there is a high level of workplace stress.

Many sufferers are on some type of medication such as tranquilizers, sleeping tablets, or antidepressants. Worse still, there are many who are addicted to illegal or dangerous substances such as illicit drugs, alcohol, and cigarettes.

A lot of sufferers have virtually no quality of life due to the swinging moods associated with their illness which can go from simple anxiety to a frightening anxiety attack. They often feel unwell and suffer from poor concentration.

When choosing a course of treatment for a person with anxiety, depression, or panic attacks, there are many facets to be looked at. Only after these are defined can an effective treatment program be devised.

Food plays an important part in these types of illnesses. What a person eats or drinks, when they eat or drink, and the routine of meals are all contributory to these conditions. There is also the habit of yoyo dieting. This practice leaves the body confused about what is being put into it and when. Even people who are following a diet regime may still not be eating correctly for their own body.

There is also an hereditary gene called the ‘caveman’ gene or Profactor H which affects the response of our bodies to particular foods by producing too much insulin. Because of this, our bodies store what we eat as fat even if you are following a healthy diet.

If we eat too much low fat food, the body will store even more fat because it sees it as a famine. If we have the Profactor H gene, it is important to watch what carbohydrates we eat and the amount and frequency of this carbohydrate intake.

It is crucial to find a balance between proteins, carbohydrates and fats so that the body can burn fat. This is important even in slim people and is often true of people who suffer depression, anxiety, and panic attacks.

Profactor H has also been identified as a link to hypertension, high cholesterol, diabetes, heart conditions, and some forms of cancer. People with Profactor H are also prone to emotional instability, PMS, depression, anxiety, and agoraphobia.

Most of us ignore symptoms of mild stress but we become concerned when the stress begins to cause life affecting mental and physical issues.

By the time we pay attention, our stress chemicals are very high but we can learn to manage this with techniques that teach the brain to release these stress chemicals subconsciously.

One such technique is interactive hypnosis. This is very powerful and allows the sufferer to control the release of thes stress chemicals at low levels. Many people such as executives, athletes, and people seeking acceleration in learning abilities use this technique very effectively.

Because the technique of self-hypnosis is natural, anyone is able to utilize this technique. They produce good health as the body learns to produce healing chemicals when the person is in this hypnotic state.
