When making decisions based on logic alone, you are playing it safe and putting a limit to what you could accomplish. This is why; those who risk more gain more. And, if/when they lose, they lose more. Just the way it goes.

I believe many of us play it too safe. We could benefit more from taking more risks. Balance is a great thing. We strive for it every day. A. Einstein said: Logic will get you from point A to B. Imagination will take you everywhere.

Using more creative decision-making approaches involve higher risks, higher rewards, and less losses. If you use balanced decision-making steps, you'll gain more by taking your time to do so.

So, how do you wage the never-ending war between logic and creativity?

You don't.

Why do we fight with these two all the time? At least, some of us used to. They're good friends. Yes, logic and creativity are the best of friends when they work together. If you want to make better decisions in your life, use both approaches.

To me, it's very simple.

Good decision-making steps involve a balanced information assessment.

Try seeing information from logical and creative perspectives. Create a powerful combination the two and put them together using a mind map. Hey! It works for me.

I would use these 3 decision-making steps. They help see the big picture from every angle possible. Once put together, you'll see the details. It prevents from making wrong assumptions about the information you want to assess.

1. Logical Thinking: For creative thinkers.

It means making decisions on what to do, or what to believe by focusing on analytical and rational thinking. This decision-making approach uses the information gathered, experience, observation and reasoning (left brain). Gather data systematically and fit it together.

If you are a creative person this approach broadens your horizons and gives structure to your usually scattered thoughts.

2. Creative Decision-Making: For logical thinkers.

On the other hand, you'll need to see things from opposite perspectives. This broadens and opens your mind to new possibilities. It helps to look at situations opposite from what you usually you do.

If you are a logical thinker, you'll see other things that are as important as numbers. Numbers usually talk to you. Here, you should look at the information from emotional, intuitive, and creative perspectives (gut feeling).

It's non-logical because it uses our own assumptions, opinion, imagination, creativity and intuition, risk taking, and experimenting. My father always told me, never to assume anything. It's good advice.

As I grew up, I learned the opposite is also true. Not that I want to contradict my father as when I was a teenager... But, I've made some successful gut feeling decisions here and there. Because, if you don't have all the pieces of information, what would you do? You know a lot of times we have to make decisions on the spot.

3. Mind Mapping: Putting the puzzle together.

Now, it's time to put both perspectives together and see the big picture from every angle. Then see the details, remember? This way you won't miss anything or make the wrong assumptions. A mind map is similar to a flow chart and it is used to represent ideas from different angles.

Logical ideas (left brain) and creative ideas (right brain) can be linked to and arranged around a central key point.

What if you walk the path no one has ever walked before? They could be unpopular decisions. It's certainly very scary and... You might end up where you wanted to be, but never thought you could.
