Dealing With Your Creditors In The Credit Repair Process - By: Chris Kennelly

A lot of people are currently affected by the credit situation as well as the impending recession that all economists and news networks are talking about, this has a direct bearing on the welfare of your accounts and credit related activities. This also might have a future impact upon your credit score, and a measure of proactive credit repair might be needed before it gets out of hand, if it has not already.

One of the first issues that you will need to address is the communication and dealing with your creditors, when looking at a credit repair process, whether you are doing this proactively or on a reactive basis. Some might question why would you do a proactive credit repair, because the issue has not become a problem as yet. Well the answer to that is that it will most likely have less of an impact upon you and your credit score if you openly and honestly try to deal with the situation prior to it becoming a problem. Hence we use the term credit repair as if we were heading into that direction.

The first issue that you will have to resign yourself to is that of humility and total honesty with your creditors. It is recommended that you contact them and discuss your current situation as well as your intentions. Should you request a rescheduling of payments and due dates, and the creditors agree to this you have to stick to this commitment. Most creditors will respect the fact that you are contacting them and are interested in the credit repair process, and will accommodate you as much as they can, that is why this honesty and openness is so important to your plight, as should you stick to the new arrangement your credit score and or report will not be as damaged as if you had not contacted the creditors and made the said arrangements.

Should you not be successful in the process of negotiating with your creditors, it is wise to familiarize yourself with your rights in terms of what the processes are with respect to any debt collecting agency. The credit repair process may be extended at this point, as once these agencies get hold of your files and details there is a lot of paperwork and related bureaucracy that becomes relevant.

The credit repair process can be difficult if you have allowed the situation to worsen without any proactive measures instilled by yourself. It is recommended that you always try to deal with the situation prior to it becoming a problem, and although this might not always be ideal it will save a lot of work and frustration further down the line.
