Danica’s Not Doing Indy, Sticking Instead To The NASCAR Racing Schedule - By: Kenneth026

Like Barry Bonds no longer doing* the Home Run Derby--Just kidding with the asterisk. Or Michael Jordan no longer doing the dunk contest, Danica Patrick has put down the open-wheel and stepped away from the time-honored tradition, where she holds the greatest finish for a female driver in the race history, opting to participate in the Coca-Cola 600 at the Charlotte Motor Speedway as part of her 2012 Sprint Cup schedule. Due to the conflicting schedule and challenge in focus, this means the famous Go Daddy girl will be forgoing the Indy 500. “I hope to do it in the future. Maybe it’ll be a double. But at this point in time, after a lot of conversations, it’s just going to be the Coke 600. It’s going to be a big challenge.” Says Patrick, who still intends on one day winning the race, “It was just something that didn’t work out, the business side of things didn’t work out… Again, I’m hopeful to do it in the future, but this year it didn’t happen.”
This decision wasn’t so much a lost focus for the IndyCar Series, but rather a shift in focus toward the Sprint Cup. Patrick feels 2012 will be the year she’ll be seen with a shadow of fear surrounding that Super Bowl-commercial body of hers. Danica will be making her transition toward the full time NASCAR Racing Schedule and the Sprint Cup with a debut in the Daytona 500.
Patrick will partake upon a full-time NASCAR racing schedule with the Nationwide Series under JR Motorsports and a part-time effort with the Sprint Cup series racing under Stewart-Haas Racing. She announced her announced 8 of her 10 Sprint Cup performances late last season, however there are still some open slots including the Brickyard 400. "Somebody even mentioned something about the All-Star race. I was like, 'I don't think I'm an All-Star.' They're like, 'Well, there is a fan vote?'The Brickyard might be a great place to add a 10th race. IndyCar fans, there is a lot of them there of course. It would be great to go there and do the big NASCAR race. I love that track. It's my favorite track."
