Dandruff is a common chronic scalp condition, which is marked by itching and flaking of the skin on your scalp.

Although dandruff isn't contagious and is rarely serious, it can be embarrassing and sometimes difficult to treat.

Dandruff is the flaking of excessive amount of dead skin flakes from the scalp. There may be a bit if itching, but no redness or scabbing.

It usually gets worse during the fall and winter and improves in the summer.

While it is caused by build up of dead skin, in many more severe cases a yeast-like organism aggravates it.

While this germ is normally present on everyone's scalp, it can produce some irritation if it grows heavily.

Symptoms of Dandruff

For most teens and adults, dandruff symptoms are easy to spot: white, oily looking flakes of dead skin that dot your hair and shoulders and an itchy, scaling scalp.

A type of dandruff called cradle cap also can affect babies. This disorder, which causes a scaling, crusty scalp, is most common in newborns, but it can occur anytime during infancy.

Although it can be alarming for parents, cradle cap isn't dangerous and usually clears up on its own by the time a baby is a year old.

Treatment of Dandruff

Dandruff conditions produce increased cell renewal on the scalp, which is often associated with an increase in sebum.

The scales will absorb the excess oil, but if the problem is untreated it will become worse.

With plenty of whole grains, fresh trait and vegetables. Cut down on fats, sugars and refined carbohydrates.

Then try to increase the blood supply to the hair follicles by giving yourself a gentle scalp massage.

Press your fingertips into your scalp at the sides of your head, and, keeping them in place, rotate them in small circles.

The idea is to gently move the scalp, not the fingers. After about 30 seconds move to another part of your head and repeat until you have treated your entire scalp.

Home Remedies for Dandruff

Hot steam bath is highly beneficial for the hair and scalp. Massage hot oil and wrap a hot damp towel on the head for few minutes.

Immerse peels of lemon in coconut oil for 8-10 days in sunshine. Now sieve and apply on the hair. Hair will become dandruff free.

Hot oil therapy is the best technique to cure dandruff. Massage hot oil into the scalp at bedtime. Next morning an hour before the bath, rub lemon juice mixed with cosmetic vinegar into the scalp with cotton wool.

Wash your hair properly and as a last rinse use the juice of one lemon in a cup of hot water. Continue this treatment once or twice a week for three months.

Mix two tablespoons of cosmetic vinegar and six tablespoons of hot water. Dab this with cotton on the scalp and leave it overnight. Next morning wash the hair with a shampoo. - Home Remedy for Dandruff

Mix beetroot juice in vinegar and apply on the scalp. Ginger juice and beetroot juice mixed together and applied on the scalp are also beneficial.

The juice of snake gourd is helpfulin the prevention and dandruff treatment. The juice should be rubbed over the scalp for this purpose.

Mix 2 tablespoons of fresh apple juice to 2 tablespoons of warm water, apply on hair, rub, and leave for 10-15 minutes and then rinse.

Repeat this process 2-3 times a week to get rid of dandruff. This dandruff remedy is useful natural remedy for dandruff.

Dandruff treatment - Massage your scalp with the mixture of olive oil and almond oil; leave it for five minutes after you feel the burning sensation. Rinse properly for a dandruff free hair.
