Daily trader Football - By: Herbert Berger

Tonight, we have 2 FA Cup replays and whilst I don't get involved in cup games, I was interested in the over 2.5 goal market for Sheffield Wednesday v Blackpool, which is around 1.85 on Betfair. Wednesday's 14 league games at Hillsborough have had 10 go over 2.5 and 10 of Blackpool's last 11 away league games have gone over 2.5. With the pressures of the league put aside for one evening this could be an entertaining match, as the goals per game stats also indicate with both teams having over 3.00 GPG this season.

For tonight's analysis Chris has given us his thoughts on the Championship match between Birmingham and Portsmouth, where a win for the home side would push them up to 3rd place.

Game: Birmingham vs. Portsmouth
League: Championship
Time: 19.45

Birmingham won the last corresponding league fixture 1-0 back in August 2009 when both sides were in the Premiership, and they also won this season’s reverse fixture 1-2. They have won 60% of the last 10 corresponding league fixtures (W6 D3 L1) and 70% of the last 10 corresponding league fixtures had less than 2.5 goals, including the last two.

Birmingham are unbeaten at St Andrew’s this season winning 64% of all their league home games (W9 D5 L0) and they have won three of their last four. They have performed well against bottom half sides this season winning six of eight (W6 D2 L0,) including their last four, three of which ended 2-1 and they all ended with over 2.5 goals.

They have kept a clean sheet in 57% (8/14) of their home games this season, including their last two, and at half time they kept a clean sheet in 79% (11/14) of these games and were only losing at half time twice, both 0-1 against Barnsley last September and against West Ham last December. Against bottom half sides they have kept four clean sheets from eight, six from eight at half time, and were losing at half time in only one of these games (Barnsley 0-1).

They have scored 22 goals and conceded six at home this season, but only 43% ended with over 2.5 goals, however, five of their last seven ended with over 2.5 goals and six of seven had two or more goals. Against bottom half sides this season five of eight had over 2.5 goals, including their last four.

In terms of goals scored and conceded at home they have opened the scoring in 64% (9/14), conceded first in 21% (3/14) and 45% (10/22) of all their goals were scored or conceded in the first half (7-3). Five of the ten goals scored in the first half were against bottom half sides and only two of the goals came before 25 minutes, both against Ipswich (9 and 18 minutes). The highest number of their goals 68% (15/22) were scored and conceded in the second half (15-3), and it’s interesting to note that 60% (9-15) of their second half goals came in the last ten minutes without conceding.

Portsmouth have won 14% of all their 14 league away games this season (W2 D4 L8), one of their last four (W1 D1 L2) and won their last game against Peterborough 0-3.
