Now, the High Definition (HD) has become the tendency of television as well as the movie. Some of the channels have already altered to HD channels in such a tendency. There is a CA card reader slot on the left side of the machine and two LED lights used to display the work condition of the machine on the right. There is only a DVB ¨C S2/S LNB input port and a mini USB port on the left side of the backboard of the machine, less than DM800. The mini USB port is used to upgrade or change operating system of DM500 HD. However, other interfaces are same as DM800. There is a switch on DM500 HD, different from the other Dreambox. The remote controller of DM500 HD is same to the one of DM800 except the color. DM500 HD¡¯s remote controller is black.

The main chip used in DM500 HD is a 400MHz BCM7405 chip produced by Broadcom. This super chip can decode the AVC/ AVS/ MPEG ¨C 2/ MPEG ¨C 4 / VC ¨C 1 HD video streams. It uses the 65nm CMOS technique, so it is highly integrated and has low power consumption. Except all these advantages, BCM7405 even supports the DDR 2 and NAND FLASH. BCM7405 has a MIPS32/ MIPS16 CPU, a digital transmitter, a MPEG ¨C 4/ VC ¨C 1/ MPEG ¨C 2/ AVS decoder, six video A/D converters, a stereo audio AD ¨C DA converter, a GPU, a PCI 2.3 extend bus controller and a 400 MHz DDR 2 ¨C 800 RAM controller inside it. It controls all the function of the set ¨C top box.
