Cremation Jewelry: Not Just For Ashes - By: thomasgalvin

Cremation jewelry is designed to hold a portion of a loved one’s cremated remains. When used for this purpose, cremation jewelry allows family members to maintain a physical connection to a loved one forever, either worn as an ash pendant or displayed in a special location for everyone to see.

Jewelry for ashes isn’t for everyone, however. Maybe you are opposed to cremation, or perhaps you just don’t like the concept of urn pendants. Maybe your religion prohibits the use of cremation keepsakes to hold a loved one’s ashes. Even so, there are other ways to use cremation jewelry to create a personal tribute to your loved one.

You see, cremation jewelry is more than just urn jewelry. In fact, there are several ways you can use cremation jewelry to preserve your memories of your loved one. Instead of ashes, consider filling your memorial jewelry with:

A lock of hair: Through the ages, locks of hair have been treasured as keepsakes - a lock of baby hair from a child, or a lock of hair from a loved one who is far away. During the Civil War, women created memorial jewelry from the hair of fallen soldiers. The chamber in cremation jewelry is an ideal place to keep a lock of hair from your deceased loved one.

A bit of burial earth: Decades ago, family members made a practice of regularly visiting the graves of loved ones, particular on Memorial Day and other special occasions. But today’s families seldom live in one town, and visiting a grave on a regular basis can be impossible when family members are separated by hundreds of miles. By placing a small amount of dirt from a loved one’s burial site into the chamber of a cremation necklace, you’ll create a touchstone that allows you to “visit” your loved one’s grave every day.

Crushed dried flowers: Flowers are a traditional sympathy gift in the U.S. and many other countries. Fragrant flowers help to lift the spirits of bereaved family members and let them know they’re not alone in their grief. As a reminder of your loved one and the support and kindness of others, place a pinch of crushed dried flowers inside your cremation jewelry.
