Creative Packaging of Promo Mugs - By: Gareth Parkin

You have the best promo mugs ever, but your advertising campaign is flopping. Why aren't people that interested in your mugs, or is there another cause that is making them turn away? It might be that far too many businesses are at that particular venue handing out mugs, and they just don't want to be lugging 20 or so of them to the car. Or maybe they just didn't like the brand association you were going for. No matter what the problem is, you can circumvent it the next time around by getting very creative with packaging your promotional mugs.

You might not realize it, but your customers are doing all sorts of things with your mugs other than just drinking out of them. Mugs make a perfect small container for office supplies, change, random small animals the kids have found, and even plants. With these offbeat uses being just the tip of the iceberg, maybe you just need to present your mug in a different way to get people biting.

One great way to generate interest with your mugs is to fill them up with smaller promotional gifts. If you are representing a zoo, you could fill it up with little animal toys. For construction workers, a mini tool kit would do the trick. How about packing in a coffee or tea kit inside of the mug? That would go over well for the caffeine addicted among your potential customer base.

As you can see, there are many different ways to repurpose your promo mugs. If you know your target market intimately, then you can fine tune your approach to make sure that sales and leads will go through the roof. Unfortunately, most of us do not have that much information available to us, so you need to make do with what you do have.

Here are a few more brainstorming ideas on promotional mugs. You will certainly be able to come up with many more, as the ideas are only limited by imagination. Arts and crafts cup – Let the artistic side of your customers run wild with a crafty promotional mug full of paints and supplies. They will love it, especially if they have kids.

Office supplies – All sorts of small office supplies can fit in a mug, so why not throw in some paper clips, pens, post it notes, and other assorted promotional office supplies?

Coffee and tea mix – You might as well give them the drinks to go along with the promotional mug, as it's only fitting. Promotional pen holder – You might as well go all the way with your branding effort by including pens as well. Gadget holder – For those techie minded people in your midst, go with a bunch of little fun gadgets. You will win massive inroads with the geeks, as well as enticing those on the edge about going over to the gadget dark side.

These are just a few simple ideas to get you started on the creative path to promotional mug marketing.
