Creating A Baseball Field From The Beginning - By: Laura K Dudley

Many different cultures all around the globe love baseball, so it is normal to see fields in almost every city. Playing on a makeshift field with the kids in the backyard is usually a fun idea, but when enough people become interested, a true field is the only way to go. Luckily, constructing a field is not difficult, and can make for years of fun.

The first things that need to be decided are the dimensions of the field. Keeping the field small is a good idea since most people could not play in a huge field, and the field should be created with the ages of the people playing in mind. It can always be expanded out from the minimum, but the minimum amount of room from the home plate to the outfield fence should be 200 feet. The 90 degree shape of the field constantly stays the same, and the back fence is at a radius of 200 feet minimum all the way across. Bases must have about sixty feet at least between them, and everything else can be placed where wanted. A chain link fence or otherwise safe gate should encircle the field and set the boundaries for the game.

The placing of the dugouts is pretty simple to decide. Third and first base are the best places for the team areas, leaving enough room for seats near the home plate. While these areas do not have to be literally in the ground, they should provide an overhang and a little bit of privacy so anyone cannot simply walk in or overhear a conversation between the members of a team. Since team sizes and the volume of guests can vary, there should be ample seating for more than what will typically be there.

Every baseball game must have dedicated seats for fans. Without devoted seats, people will be very disorganized and quite a few will not feel comfortable watching. It is very important to have two completely independent southern bleachers between home and first and third and home. Permanent grandstands can work too, but are generally too big for many baseball field projects. Even little league games can have some passionate fans on either side, so keeping them split prevents problems from arising. The mothers and fathers of little league players are amongst the most brutal fans out there, so keeping them split will prevent issues in the future.

There are many other options that a field may offer, but there is nothing else required to play a competitive baseball game. Now all that has to be done is a little work, and finding some people to play!
