Congratulations! You have a new addition to your home. It is really nice to have a puppy in your home. It is able to add some more cheer into the family. However, you have to keep in mind one important thing when it comes to taking care of dogs at home: crate training a dog.

It can be really frustrating and tiring when it comes to crate training a dog. And here are a few things that could help you in housebreaking your puppy.

There are a lot of methods to train your pups in relieving himself in the right places. And one of the highly recommended methods is crate training. It is basically trying to tap into the dog's wolf-like instincts of not peeing in their dens. So, the idea behind the training is to prevent your dog from peeing in his bed. It is animal instinct that the area of comfort and protection is desecrated when it is peed or defecated on. And crate training is basically instilling that the place of rest and protection, the crate, is not the place to pee on.

Of course, you will not be able to conduct crate training without a crate. In crate training a dog, it is important that you consider the size of the dog when choosing the crate. It must be large enough for your dog to fit in. You can also use dividers to restrict the space in the crate. Too much space will allow the puppy to use another area of the crate as the restroom. So make sure that he just has enough room to stand up on and move a little. Space must not be too much for the dog to walk around in.

Another important thing that you have to remember is schedule. It is imperative that your puppy eats on a schedule. The schedule should include water during colder days. You have to make sure that your dog knows the schedule for walks, baths, sleeping, eating so he will have a schedule for relieving himself as well. It may be difficult at first since you and your family will have to be put in a schedule as well. But it will benefit you greatly as it speeds crate training a dog.

There is one thing that most pet owners do not know when it comes to dogs. Of course, there will be some unavoidable instances like accidents. And in case your dog pees in an area where he is not supposed to, you should know that no amount of scolding will prevent these situations. Scolding during accidents can even lead to bigger problems. The dog may become too scared to pee and become a submissive urinator.

Crate training a dog is important to help keep your house free from any unpleasant odors and surprises. The key here is consistency. You and your dog will have to work on this together. If you get off the rhythm, the whole training could be put to waste. So it is important that you keep to your schedule to help keep your dog in track.
