Cough is the most common reason why people go to their primary doctor. In some cases, the cough has lasted less than 3 weeks, and is termed an “acute cough”.

A cough that has lasted for between 3 and 8 weeks is termed a “sub-acute cough”. And coughing that has been going on for more than 8 weeks is termed a “chronic cough”.

Pertussis is an acute, highly contagious respiratory disease characterized by coughing that ends in a loud whooping inspiration.

It occurs mainly in infants and in children less than 4 years of age who have not been immunized. The causative organism is Bordetella pertussis, and a similar organism, B. parapertussis, causes a less harsh form of the disease called parapertussis.

1. Add a few drops of ginger root juice to a teaspoon of honey and consume this three to four times a day and before going to bed. This soothes the respiratory passages and provides relief from dry cough.

2. Prepare a mixture of a teaspoon of turmeric powder, a teaspoon of carom seeds and half a glass of water. Consume this combination twice a day to soothe throat irritation caused by dry cough.

3. Drink lots of warm water all through the day. Add some honey to warm water for better results.

4. Prepare a mixture of grape juice and honey and consume it before going to bed and when you wake up in the morning.

5. Have a glass of warm milk with turmeric to soothe the throat and cure dry cough completely.

6. Add a couple of drops of apple cider vinegar to a glass of warm water to reduce throat inflammation and eliminate dry cough.

Home Remedies for Cough

1. Extracted juice of ginger with honey takes three or four times a day is an exceptional remedy for coughs and cold.

2. A decoction of henna leaves can be used as a gargle, with beneficial results.

3. Mix 3 tablespoon of lemon juice, 1 cup honey, and 1/4 cup warm water and take two teaspoons daily.

4. In cases of dry cough,peel a small piece of fresh ginger. Sprinkle some salt on it and chew.

5. Three peppers sucked with a pinch of caraway seeds and a crystal of common salt provides relief. It is an effective home remedy for cough.

6. Add a gram of turmeric powder to a teaspoon of honey for curing dry cough.

7. Hot tea with lemon and rasberry jam, drink as much as possible.

8. Ginger tea, set by adding a few pieces of ginger into boiled water before adding tea leaves, is another successful remedy for cough.

9. Chew cardamom for a long time.
