Costly mistake of skipping sleep - By: Loo

If you think that sleep is a waste of time, think again. Sleep is an essential part of our life, of which one-third is spent on sleeping, adds up to 3000 hours.Regrettably, one in four Americans reported having less than 7 hours of sleep per day during the work week. A century ago, people sleep 8.5 hours on average.

Why sleep is so important? When we have a restful night of sleep, our brained is refreshed, releasing some kind of hormone that enables us to positively face any challenges in life. When we don't, on the contrary, every aspect of life can suffer.

We probably already know what it feels like to have a low quality night of sleep. The next day we're feeling aweful, as the time passes off we can become more irritable, get angry easily over little bitty things. It is important to realize that it's necessary to feel bad about this behavior, it's just a complaint signal from our tiring body. All we have to do is to go sleep to help restore and rejuvenate the brain and body, followed by a good nutrition and exercise of course.

Unfortunately, in today society, sleep is not appreciated in rat race.
With the high demands of our daily work, many of us would rather sacrifice sleep for gaining that little extra time to do what seems to be more important or interesting. However expert warns that this is not a smart move. There isn't simply enough time for our body mechanism to rejuvenate, and thus function below par the next day, costing even more valuable time.
It can also seriously affect our health, work (for student performance), and safety for self and others.

"The people who by choice or due of illness, work , or any circumstances, stay awake for continuous five to ten days, suffer heavily mental breakdown, have hallucinations and eventually lead to death," says Dr. James B. Maas experts.

"If we want health, we must sleep enough, and this can only happen when we are well aware of the dangers and promises," says William C. Dement, the world's leading authority on sleep deprivation.

Stealing sleep, cut attention,decision-making skills to half, communication skills to thirty percent, and memory to twenty percent, according to scientists. This is the reason why sleep debt is recognized as a serious problem in many countries.

Without enough sleep (most of us are guilty of), we have reduced energy and difficulty concentrating along the side of the depleted atmosphere, which also represents the majority of accidents. The price we pay for this condition is simply too high. So think again, do you really think sleep is just a waste of time?
