Nokia N96 can be considered as a true powerhouse with different types of advanced features and applications. It is the best converged gadget of its time. The design of this mobile phone is inspired by Nokia's previous model N95. With the dual-sliding feature like N95, this phone is a much lighter and sleek gadget. The 2.8 QVGA display covers most of the area of the front of the hand set. This hand set supports 16 million colors, like the iPhone, and has an extremely colorful display. The mobile can be used and is readable in any kind of lighting condition. At the top of the phone is a VGA camera which is front facing and the earpiece. The navigation cluster is at the bottom of the phone, which has the left and right soft keys, the end key, the menu key, the clear key, multimedia key and the d-pad which is five way. The multimedia control is hidden and appears when the cell phone lights up.

The dial pad has 12 keys which appears when you slide the phone. It has a wide keypad which makes dialing easier as compared to other technologically advanced phones. The screen orientation changes to landscape with a downward slide and you can see the media keys which can be helpful for gaming controls as well. The stereo speakers are located at the right side of the hand set at the top and the bottom and on the left side has the covered slot for microSDHC. The top of the hand set has the 3.5 mm headphone jack, power button and the lock switch. The data port is at the bottom of the phone which can also be used for charging the cell phone.

The back of the phone is black in color and is made up of plastic which is a little surprising in such an advanced phone. The 5 mega pixel camera with a Carl Zeiss lens is displayed prominently and has a silver lining around it. N96 has a double LED flash light which is better than N95's single LED flashlight, however the Xenon is missing. N96 is a tall, wide and an advanced phone with a sleek look which can be an important factor for its marketing.
